Playtime fun!

It's been a long time and my camera is full of pictures, so I'll "cut to the chase". Enjoy :)Lauren got a baby radio from her Aunt Holly for her birthday and she LOVES to tote it around the house, bopping and dancing to such tunes as the "Lowercase Alphabet Song" and the "Days of the Week" song. These have become the new songs that Chad and I often have stuck in our heads during the work day :) Okay, who am I kidding? These songs are also songs I happen to play in my classroom each day as well. Maybe the real reason they are always stuck in my head is because I hear them at home AND at work.
Cuddling with Grandma and a good book~

Who needs a sippy cup when you have Daddy's famous Bulls cup?
Giddy'up Lauren!
What a goofball!
"Hmmmm, what shoes should I wear today?"

Things are good but super busy around here. Chad is back in the midst of a busy grad school semester. I am knee-deep in my school year with my kiddos but I have a student teacher for the first time, so I'm getting a lot of extra help in the classroom which is SO nice. Lauren is doing better sleeping at night lately. Last week my parents stayed with us for a few days and Lauren ended up waking several times during the nights while they were here. In fact, last Wednesday night, she was up crying from 3-5am!! (And yes, Chad and I both got up for work at 6. Yuck). Well, my mom suggested that maybe she is hungry at night. So I've started letting her have a bowl of oatmeal or rice cereal mixed with whole milk right before bed and she's slept through the night nicely since then. The problem is that she refuses bottles and I'm weaning her from breastfeeding. So...I don't nurse her at bedtime anymore. That plus the fact that she won't drink milk from a cup yet (again, she refuses just as she does with bottles) means she isn't getting much to eat after her regular 5:30 dinnertime. So the cereal has helped alot so far. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
Have a good work week!

First Birthday Portraits...

Before I show you Lauren's first birthday portraits, I need to take a moment to share some very sad news with you and to ask for your prayers to be directed towards a good friend of mine. My friend Jenn (we got to know each other in the School of Ed at UW-Madison) was expecting her second baby and was 34 weeks along when she found out that she lost the baby yesterday. They don't know how or why it happened and they may never know. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. They're going to need it. Thanks.

Lauren is busy walking everywhere nowadays. Her latest trick? She picked up my cell phone yesterday, lifted the flip front, held down the #4 for speed dial and before I realized what she was doing, I could hear my mom saying "Hello? Who's there?". Yep, she had grabbed my phone and called Grandma all by herself. The little stinker is just too smart :)

Enjoy the photos from our latest photo session for her first birthday~
As you can tell, this is a scanned image of my 8x10 collage of her birthday cake devouring. It's kind of hard to see each picture here. Guess you'll have to come visit our house to see it better in person :)
I think her eyes just look amazing in this picture.
Just before she dug into her smash cake.
Yep, she's stomping in it!
She just crawled completely across her cake. Wish you could see what her legs look like in this picture!
Have a good night!

The first pics of our one-year-old!

I have to try and keep this somewhat short since it's already 10:30pm and I'm zonked. I'll try...

Last weekend, we took Lauren to Madison so we could visit with some old friends and their children. I used to take care of Jack, Tess and Maddie when I lived in Madison. We visited with their family as well as with Danielle and her family. (I used to work with Danielle at the daycare in Madison). We had fun catching up and Lauren had a blast trying to keep up with the kids all around the house. Here's my little one trying out her new walking skills.
Here's Lauren with Porter. He is the son of my good friend Danielle. Aren't they cute together? I'm thinking future prom dates, maybe?
Here's an action shot of some serious bed jumping with Porter, Tess and Maddie. Of course Lauren had to get in on the action.

On Lauren's birthday, we had a small party at our house with some of our dinner club friends. Lauren was pretty tired and didn't really get excited about her cake. But yesterday, we took her to have her portraits taken at Penney's and we brought a smash cake. She went crazy with it! She got cake everywhere and we got some awesome pictures! I can't wait to post them here as soon as we get them next week. Stay tuned!
Last week, the temps here dipped down to 40 degrees BELOW ZERO. Yes, you read that right. It was negative 40 around here for a few consecutive days, so school was cancelled and I ended up with an unexpected but very welcome four-day weekend with Lauren. We stayed in our jammies until nearly 3pm on both days and we had a blast cuddling and playing together.
My parents and Chad's family all came to visit for the weekend to help us celebrate Lauren's birthday. She had a great time spending time with all of them!
Lauren insisted on wearing her new pair of rainboots with her pajamas. What a goof.My little drama queen burst into tears when her dolly stroller crashed into the wall.

Sitting on her Tigger ball reading a good book :)

Have a good week!

A TON of new pictures!

Sorry it's been so long since I last updated the blog. We've been busy, busy, busy! So much has happened since I last posted--We had a great time New Year's Eve at Jason and Jackie's house. Most of the night was spent playing Wii. Even Lauren got in on the fun! We spent the night there, which allowed us to put Lauren to bed at a decent time. It was a great idea in theory but wasn't so great when Lauren woke up very upset at 3am and could not be consoled without bringing her into bed with us. Oh well... Chad's parents came to visit on New Year's Day and stayed for the weekend so we could celebrate Christmas with them. We had a wonderful visit with them and Lauren loved getting some cuddle time in with Grandma and Grandpa Steighner. Just hours after they left to drive home, Lauren decided to walk across the family room all by herself for the first time! She had been taking a few steps between Chad and I once in awhile but this time, she spotted Westin laying on the opposite side of the family room and she took off for him. When she got to him, she leaned down and put her head on him and then started clapping...very proud of herself! Chad and I both went back to work last Monday after taking some much-needed time off over the holidays. I wound up with either the flu or food poisoning mid-week and spent a day in bed sick :( Today, I hosted a baby shower at our house for our friend Rachel. There was a really cute little boy who came with his Mommy. He's two weeks younger than Lauren and they had a fun time playing together.

Now for the real reason you are here. Enjoy many, many new pictures of our little girl!
She received a new pair of snowboots for Christmas and insisted on wearing them for a while with her jammies. Pretty cute :)
Playing Wii with Timmy B at the New Year's Eve party. She was a party animal!
Awwwww...the first time I put a clip in her hair. She left it in!
"See my Tigger cup?"
Raiding the tupperware cabinet...
It's hard to see very well but she's sticking her tongue out at Joey at Rachel's baby shower today.Having fun playing with Joey.
Stef shared her chapstick with Lauren and she loved it!
More playtime with Joey (cute shirts, by the way!)Lauren "built" a play table and a toy chest for the family room. Here she is working on putting it together.
Reading the instruction manual...
"Hey Mom, can I borrow a rubber mallet?"
"Thanks. I've got it from here..."
Checking out her new toy chest.
Playing with her new "workbench" from Grandma and Grandpa Steighner.
They also gave her a sled for Christmas. Here she is, enjoying it for the first time!
Sledding in our yard.
Reading a book in her new rocking armchair from Gma and Gpa Steighner.Enjoying a bagel with cream cheese for the first time :-)
Tomorrow, we're taking Lauren to Madison for lunch with friends. Then we've got a very big week ahead of us--our little girl will have her first birthday on Wednesday! I think this year has been the fastest year of my entire life....
Have a good Sunday!
Love,
Mindy & Lauren
